Who can volunteer?
Our volunteer programs are open to people from all backgrounds and nationalities. Whether you're a student, professional, retiree, taking a gap year, or simply looking for a meaningful travel experience, you're welcome to join us. The most important qualities are enthusiasm, respect, and a willingness to learn.
Do I need previous volunteering experience?
No. Most of our projects do not require previous experience. While some specialised placements, such as healthcare, may require relevant qualifications or education, many projects are suitable for first-time volunteers.
What is the minimum age to volunteer?
The minimum age depends on the project. Most programs welcome volunteers aged 16 and over. Younger participants may be able to join with parental consent or as part of a group. Please contact us to discuss the options.
Can I volunteer if I don't speak English fluently?
Yes. You don't need to speak perfect English. Basic English is usually enough to communicate with our team and other volunteers. Many projects also provide opportunities to communicate through activities, teamwork, and shared experiences.
During your stay in Tanzania, you will learn to speak good English by doing fun activities with the other volunteers and experiencing daily African life.
How long can I volunteer for?
We offer flexible volunteer programs. Depending on the project, you can stay from one week to several months. If you're unsure how long to stay, we're happy to help you choose the option that best suits your goals.
Can I volunteer with a friend, partner or family member?
Absolutely! Many people join our programs together. We will place you in the same accommodation and, where possible, at the same or nearby projects. It is so beautiful to get to share this experience together.
How do I apply?
Getting started is easy. Simply send us an email telling us a little about yourself, your interests, and when you'd like to volunteer. We'll then send you an application form and guide you through the next steps to find the volunteer opportunity that's right for you.
Do I need a visa for Tanzania?
Yes, most international travellers need a visa to enter Tanzania. The requirements depend on your nationality. We recommend checking the latest visa regulations before travelling, and we're happy to guide you through the application process if you have any questions.
Which vaccinations do I need?
Vaccination requirements vary depending on your home country and travel history. We recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic well before your departure. They can advise you on recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention based on your personal situation.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, we strongly recommend that every volunteer and intern has comprehensive travel insurance. Your insurance should cover medical expenses, personal belongings, and trip cancellations or interruptions, giving you peace of mind throughout your stay.
What should I pack?
We recommend packing lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, any personal medication, and a reusable water bottle. Before your departure, we'll send you a detailed packing list with everything you'll need for your stay in Tanzania.
How much money should I bring?
This depends on your personal spending habits and travel plans. Most volunteers bring extra money for souvenirs, weekend trips, restaurants, and personal expenses. We recommend carrying a combination of cash and a debit or credit card.
What is the weather like in Tanzania?
Tanzania has a warm tropical climate throughout the year, although temperatures can vary depending on the region and season. In Arusha, the weather is generally pleasant, with warm days and cooler evenings. We recommend bringing light clothing as well as a sweater or jacket for the evenings.
Can you help me prepare for my trip?
Absolutely! Once you've been accepted into one of our programs, we'll provide you with practical information and guidance to help you prepare. From travel advice and packing tips to arrival information and life in Tanzania, we'll make sure you feel ready for your adventure.
What airport should I fly to?
Most volunteers and interns arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), which is the closest international airport to Arusha. We can help you plan your arrival and arrange airport pick-up if this is included in your program.
What if its my first time travelling alone?
Many of our participants travel solo for the very first time. It's completely normal to feel excited and a little nervous. From the moment you contact us, we're here to answer your questions and support you. Once you arrive, we'll help you settle in so you quickly feel comfortable and at home.
Accommodation
Where will I stay?
Our volunteers and interns stay in safe, comfortable, and welcoming accommodation in Arusha. It's a place where you can relax after your project, meet other international participants, and truly feel at home during your stay.
What is the accommodation like?
Our accommodation offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. Rooms are clean and well-maintained, with shared living spaces where volunteers and interns can connect, share experiences, and enjoy their time together.
Will I have my own room?
We offer both shared and private room options, depending on availability and your preferences. If you would like a private room, please let us know when applying, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?
Yes. If you have dietary requirements, allergies, or follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, please let us know before your arrival. We'll do our best to accommodate your needs.
Is WI-FI available?
Yes, Wi-Fi is available at the accommodation. While internet speeds may differ from what you're used to at home, you'll be able to stay in touch with family and friends and access the internet when needed.
Is the accommodation safe?
Your safety is one of our priorities. Our accommodation is a safe, welcoming, and comfortable environment for all our volunteers and interns.
How far is the accommodation from my project?
The distance depends on your placement. Some projects are within walking distance, while others require a short drive. We'll provide all the details before your arrival and help arrange transportation where needed.
What should I expect from living in Tanzania?
Living in Tanzania is a unique and rewarding experience. Daily life may be different from what you're used to, but that's part of the adventure. We encourage our participants to embrace the local culture, be flexible, and enjoy every moment of this unforgettable experience.

What does a typical volunteer day look like?
Every project is different, so no two days are exactly the same. Most volunteers spend their mornings and afternoons at their placement, while evenings and weekends can be used to relax, explore the area, or spend time with other volunteers.
Can I choose my volunteer project?
Yes! Absolutely! We want you to enjoy your experience, so we'll work with you to find a project that matches your interests, skills, and personal goals.
Will I have free time?
Yes. Outside your volunteer hours, you'll have plenty of time to relax, discover Arusha, meet other volunteers, or explore everything Tanzania has to offer.
Can I travel during the weekends?
Definitely! Many volunteers use their weekends to experience Tanzania's incredible beauty. Popular trips include safaris, visiting local markets, hiking, waterfalls, coffee tours, hot springs, and, if you're staying longer, Zanzibar or Mount Kilimanjaro.

Will I meet other volunteers?
Yes. One of the best parts of volunteering abroad is meeting people from around the world. Our accommodation and activities provide plenty of opportunities to build friendships and share experiences
What if I have a problem during my stay?
If you experience any problems or have concerns, please let us know as soon as possible. We're here to support you and will always do our best to find a solution quickly.
Will I experience Tanzanian culture?
Absolutely! We encourage volunteers to immerse themselves in local life. From trying traditional food and learning a few words of Swahili to participating in community activities, you'll experience the warmth and hospitality that Tanzania is known for.
Can I extend my stay?
In many cases, yes. If you decide you'd like to stay longer, we'll do our best to arrange an extension, depending on project availability and accommodation. Let us know if you want to stay longer, we will look for the possibilities.
Is there transportation to my project?
Transportation depends on your placement. Some projects are within walking distance, while others may require local transport. We'll explain exactly how you'll get to your project before you arrive.
What happens at the end of my program?
As your journey comes to an end, you'll have the chance to reflect on everything you've experienced, celebrate the connections you've made, and say goodbye to the people and community who have been part of your adventure. Many volunteers leave with unforgettable memories—and often a desire to return one day.
What is included in the program fee?
Your program fee covers the essentials for your stay, such as your placement, accommodation, local support, and guidance before and during your experience. Contact us for the exact prices.
Are flights included?
No. International flights are not included in the program fee. This gives you the flexibility to choose the airline and travel dates that best suit your plans. We can help you to find the perfect flight.
Are airport transfers included?
Yes, airport pick-up can be arranged for participants arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). We'll provide all the details before your arrival.
Are there any additional costs?
Depending on your plans, you may need to budget for flights, your visa, travel insurance, vaccinations, personal expenses, weekend activities, and optional excursions.
When do I need to pay?
After your application has been accepted, we'll provide you with all the payment information, including the deposit and final payment deadlines.
Can I receive a refund if I cancel?
Our cancellation and refund policy depends on when the cancellation is made. Please contact us for more information, and we'll explain the available options.

Is it safe to travel alone?
